7 JBoss Stickers You Should See

Historical beginnings of stickers.
Over the years there have been an amazing array of designs, logos and laptop stickers to commemorate various JBoss projects.

On top of that, we have over the last three years attempted to provide some interesting product laptop stickers for those of us that are tied to specific requirements in our enterprises.

These stickers not only adorn our laptop covers, but present a bit of an insight into who we are, what we work on and our devotion to specific areas of JBoss technology.

The following seven laptop stickers are all available if you find me or my colleagues at a conference, event or just hanging out so be sure to ask for them when you bump into a Red Hat JBossian in the wild!

1. I RULE

The classical I RULE, a JBoss BRMS sticker, first one ever done for a product, now 3 years old and evolved into the smaller version you see here.

2. SILENCE!

The SILENCE sticker is the only Complex Event Processing (CEP) sticker we have ever seen for a laptop, so be sure to get this rare find for yourself.

3. DO NOT TOUCH

For JBoss BPM we came up with the DO NOT TOUCH as it was perfect for developers to keep everyone away from your laptop and their sticky fingers to themselves, always a fan favorite.

4. Edwards Deming quote

A process quote from Edwards Deming, probably the most popular JBoss BPM Suite sticker to date.

5. BPM IS MY X

A yet to be released into the wild, a BPM IS MY X xPaaS sticker, so watch for this at your next event.

6. MY X IS BPM

Another yet to be released MY X IS BPM xPaaS sticker, unique for your laptop if you can find one at your next event.

7. WHAT IS YOUR X?

A brand new xPaaS sticker that contains the phrase coined at Devoxx this year in Belgium. Look for this one too at your next event.

These are the laptop stickers you too can start collecting to adorn your work machine to show your JBoss colors.

Collection growing again...
Even if you end up getting a new laptop and can't transfer the existing coat of stickers (like shown above), you can always start over with these new ones.

Safe travels to your next JBoss event and happy sticker hunting!

How To Setup SOA 5.x Tooling For JBoss Developer Studio 8

The release of the latest JBoss Developer Studio (JBDS) brings with it the questions around how to get started with the various JBoss Integration and BPM product tool sets that are not installed out of the box.

In this series of articles we will outline for you how to install each set of tools and explain which products they are supporting.

This should help you in making an informed decision about what tooling you might want to install before embarking on your next JBoss integration project.

There are four different software packs that offer tooling for various JBoss integration products:
  1. JBoss Business Process and Rules Development
  2. JBoss Integration and SOA Development
  3. JBoss Data Virtualization Development
  4. Missing integration stack?
  5. JBoss SOA 5.x Development
This article will outline how to get started with the JBoss Data SOA 5.x tooling and JBDS 8.

JBDS 8 can be obtained through the Customer Portal or via the early access downloads on jboss.org. After installing JBDS, start it up and you will see a welcoming JBoss Central tab with at the bottom a tab to look at the available tool sets labeled Software/Update

You will notice that there are no JBoss Integration stacks offered to install upon first inspection. This is due to, at the time of this writing, the integration stacks being early access.

Eventually they will be shown by default once testing finished and they release, but for now you can obtain them by checking the Early Access box in the bottom right corner.

This will reveal the integration stack tooling offerings and we will select JBoss SOA 5.x Development.

Click on the Install/Update button to start the installation and restart at the end to complete the process.

If you are interested in what is being installed, it can be examined by digging into the menu as follows:
  • Help -> Install new software...
    • pull down the menu offered by Work with:
    • select JBoss Developer Studio 8.x - Early Access
    • everything under JBoss SOA 5.x Development will be installed
The specifics.
Stay tuned for more articles in this series that will detail the installation of the remaining JBoss Integration Stack tools.

Best Way to Recap Devoxx 2014 Mastering xPaaS University Session

Mastering xPaaS Uni Session Devoxx 2014
This week Devoxx BE 2014 kicked off in Antwerp, Belgium with my university session.

It was 3 hours of fun and attracted quite a crowd, though impossible to count a room of that size, estimates were over ~500 attendees.

We walked through IaaS (remember, "I don't care!"), PaaS and xPaaS layers with multiple demos to showcase what you can do within the PaaS and xPaaS layers with OpenShift.
The xPaaS showcased a massive collection of JBoss technology products that cover the myriad of aPaaS, iPaaS, mPaaS and bpmPaaS services.

Several collectible antique OpenShift t-shirts and some stickers were given away to the first attendees to show me working PaaS or xPaaS solutions while participating in the session live.
The slides are of course being hosted on our OpenShift PaaS for your viewing pleasure and if you like you can follow along and work through the examples provided as a self-paced workshop.

The session was recorded and should appear on Parleys.com in the near future.

Initial feedback was fun to watch streaming in on social media.

The slides:

Thanks to all who attended and responded online.

If you missed this university session, there's a free video recording available:
